Conventions of a Horror/Thriller Genre

With this research conducted on the conventions of Horror/Thriller movies, I believe incorporating some of these key conventions can help the audience tell that our short movie is from the horror genre and would know what to expect; with these ideas, I believe that we can make our short film to our audience's standards but twist them in a way that our audience's expectations are subverted as what they typically see in a Horror movie has been completely flipped. However, to help us get ideas on what to do for our short films I will use some of these conventions in order to make the short film a success and what we believe to be scary.

Proposal part2

Proposal Part 2

Setting and Location : The short film will take place in a zoom call and in a house. This will be located in London (Modern day)

This idea was chosen to give a message to our audience about how the pandemic has affected so many people in different ways. And this is why we have chose a horror as genre in order to emphasis the pandemic as when it first started everyone was scared and affected by it.

- Some shots will be taken outside such as park or public area in order to emphasis that we got a pandemic going on .

-The reason why some shots will be taken outside is because we would like to demonstrate to audience how this deadly virus is affecting and killing many people .

This is because they are experiencing a pandemic which leads them to zoom call and catch up.

The second location will be located in mine school gallery. This would be very effective for our short film as most of the dark scenes will be presented in the gallery. The No caller ID will be mostly presented in this room . The reason why me and the person who I'm working with have choose this room for the No caller Id is because it has different monitors which will be useful to give that dark vibe of who this No caller Id is .

The final and last Location will be in the park this because we would like to show how empty the park is to emphasis the pandemic that is going on.

This will be recorded around 19:00 when we know the park would be most likely to be empty for us to record .

This shot will be connected to a view at the window to show how empty the area is. So in one of our scene we will show one of the characters looking outside at the window.

Now shifting my focus to the personnel and the job roles

Me and maria will be the directors of this shorth film as we are the one that will be creating this shorth film.

Production

My role in production=

I will be planning and scheduling for the short-film
My scheduling will include every day to-do list.
I will be getting all my actors together.
I will be planning for a focus group date.

Marias's production

She will make sure we got the right equipment.
Write down any extra equipment we need such as camera etc...
Provide the right equipment.
Make sure everyone has a laptop or computer to film

Camera operator = School friend will be assisting us with the camera.

post-production

My role in post-production =

I will be cutting scenes
I will be watching every single scene that's been recorded to see if we forgot any scene
I will be downloading free sound effective .
I will also write different ideas of how she should edit our short film.

Double check I have cut everything before editing

Now shifting my focus to the cheaters and each role:

We got 4 friends that are known to be the teen group in the storyline. Each one of them plays a different role in this short film.

The first teenager

They will be seen at the beginning of the short film looking at the window saying' 'I wish I could go outside''.
they will be known to be the most matured character in the short film]
They are known to be the peace maker

The second Teenager

The second character is responsible for the missing girl .
they are the one to blame for posting the girls video.
They like to blame everyone for they action.
They are very quick to jump for traps.

He will be pushing everyone to play the game .

Scared to take actions in the group
They easily quiet
They can't defend themselves .

They are known to be the evil character in the game

Like questioning the group

For the bbfc we would make it 18+ as we would like the younger generation to relate .

One thing that can possibly affect our short film is that we made it similar to the movie called unfriend as we took most .of the ideas from there e

The ethical issue is that the person who I'm working with is 17 while I'm 18 and that could possibly be an ethical issue towards our work and this can be a problem towards our short film production.

PROPOSAL PART 1-

Outline of Purpose/Post-

Set in the pandemic, a couple of friends organise a zoom call to catch up and talk as schools and public places are closed. During the Zoom meeting, they suddenly start talking about their old friend that has passed away and/or has gone missing. They continue to talk about what could have happened to their friend and who posted the last ever post that was on their social media page because they have doubts that it was actually them who posted it. Suddenly, an unknown caller joins the call. The caller asks if everyone wanted to play a game; they accept. However, chaos ensues as the main protagonist finds their friends being taken down one by one after they play this game on the app on their phones they were told to download.

This app tells them the exact date they are going to die. Everyone freaks out. Someone's death appears as today, they didn't take it seriously until the last minute where that person succumbs to their death. They are eliminated one by one as they try to remove the person from the call and confess to their secrets to find out who killed the person.

The twist of the short film is to subvert viewers expectations thinking its the ghost of the person in the call that was killed as the short film hints towards it but however it was someone in the call posing as the murdered/missing person to be able to get everyone to confess to their secrets and other things they are hiding as everyone in the call is a suspect and could have possibly been behind the disappearance/killing of their old friend.

Target audience and scheduling/distribution

For our short film, we're aiming for an audience that ranges between 15-18 years olds. The main characters in our short film are going to be played by 17-18 year olds- so the characters in the short film are going to be more relatable and connected to the main characters are they are around their age group. This is going to be further proven by the setting of short film where they cannot go to school as they are stuck indoors due to the pandemic, which a lot of teenagers can relate to in this very moment in time.

Although we believe that both genders will enjoy our short film, according to research (and possibly stereotypes) males prefer to watch horror and scary movies more than females, meaning we would have more male watchers than we would female, so whilst creating our short film we need to consider our target audience.

The people watching our short film could possibly have an interest in scary, suspenseful and thrilling killer movies that are cloaked in mystery that gives the watchers a challenge to see if they can find out who the killer is before the main characters can. Our target audience should also be frequent users of social media and smart technology, as we are basing our short film on zoom, our target audience should have at least have used it once so that it feels familiar to them.

Although we are basing a lot of our short film on Zoom, there are going to be some shots that are not online. As we're mainly going to be showing our short film to people in the local area, we are going to also get some shots from outside in the part, near a corner shop where the viewers can recognise and get excited as they have been to that place to show the emptiness of public places due to the pandemic.

For the ethnicity of our audience, we want it to be diverse as the main characters in our short film all come from different backgrounds so a lot of people can relate to them.

According to research, more younger people such as teenagers (our primary target audience) watch videos mostly on Youtube than opposed to TV. We believe that more of our target audience will see our short film on Youtube and find it to their interest than it would be on TV as a lot of our audience doesn't watch as much TV anymore. Also, there are not a not of channels that primarily broadcast short films and our film will only be about 10 minutes at most long.

Genre and Theme

The Short Film is a: Horror, Thriller and Mystery. The viewers as they watch can try and guess who the killer and/or how the person disappeared as the characters in the short film are left to unravel the mystery; the short film is going to keep the viewers on the edges of their seats as more shocking events occur in the short film.

The characters in the short film are going to use objects such as: their mobile phones, their computers and/or tablets, etc.

Other props in the short film can be: a fake knife, fake blood, a blender, a laptop, computer, webcam, papers, and a microphone.

The characters are going to be dressed up in casual attire, so the target audience for our short film can relate to them as they are both similar to one another.
